Facing top club away at Cardinia was a big ask, but the Yabbies bowled well, reducing Cardinia to 8/129 before a Dwayne Doig inspired recovery had the hosts 9/183 at the close. Lucas Plozza, Chris Smith, Adam Cooper and Darren Warne each took two wickets. PUT’s reply began steadily, but nemesis Doig bowled brilliantly yet again to snuff out the Yabby challenge, in which only three batsmen reached double figures.
E Grade
Darren Temby (13) and Craig Spicer (18) got the innings off to a solid start, but quick wickets fell . Blake McGrath (19) stiffened the middle order, but runs were hard to come by and Tooradin bowled out the Yabbies for 106 runs. The Yabbies managed to defend the total, thanks to terrific spells from Greg Brown (3/38) and Ben McLeod (5/17). Wicketkeeper Spicer took four catches. The Yabbies now play Cranbourne Meadows in the Grand Final.
Women The Yabbies faced Mornington 1 in a best-of-three One-Day Grand Final. On Saturday the girls chased a huge 172 on a slow ground and lost by 2 runs. Rayleen Cooper top-scored, making 77 runs. On Sunday the girls turned up looking to make amends, and bowled the opposition out for 88 runs. Evelyn Rannstrom took two wickets and made a run-out. In the reply, Katie Garth scored 23 as the Yabbies won by 2 wickets. The Grand Final decider starts at 1pm this Saturday at Alexandra Park, Mornington.
